About This Drive-In
Tucked in a picturesque area on the outskirts of Atlanta, the Starlight Drive-In Theatre has always maintained its lush greenery and ode to classic art-deco style. These days the Starlight boasts four screens with an all-new digital projection system that delivers the brightest picture and clearest sound ever experienced at the Drive-In. When the Starlight Drive-In opened in 1949, it showcased one massive screen where moviegoers flocked to see the latest films. In the late 1950s, the rising cost of residential and commercial properties forced many Drive-In theatres to close. Fortunately, the Starlight has thrived due to its unique location and loyal patrons. In 1956, a second screen was added, and the name was changed to the Starlight Twin. In the early 1980s, many hard-top theaters began converting to multiplexes with smaller screens, prompting the Starlight to add four more screens in 1983 to accommodate demand and open the famous Swap Meet. The closure of the North 85 Twin in 1998 only increased the Starlight's popularity with the local community, as customers craved the nostalgia and double-feature fun unique to the Starlight. In 1999, the first 'Drive-In Invasion' was held, featuring live music, cool cars, on-site camping, and off-beat classic movies. Weekend events like 'Drive Invasion' and 'Rock and Roll Monster Bash' have become traditions, showcasing local artists, organizations, vendors, and family-friendly activities. In 2013, the Starlight upgraded to a digital projection system for the highest quality ever experienced at the Drive-In. Movie fans can now enjoy double-features with the sharpest, brightest picture and crystal clear sound broadcast right to their car stereo. With more than 70 years of great drive-in movies, the Starlight has become an Atlanta landmark, inviting visitors to experience the fun of watching movies under the stars.
